Waterford SHC Quarter-final replay/ Ballygunner 4-13 Mount Sion 0-13: Ballygunner produced a top class display in Walsh Park yesterday to oust defending champions Mount Sion and set up a semi -final showdown with Lismore on Sunday next.
Ballygunner produced a first half blitz as they raced into the lead with a goal by JJ Hutchinson inside two minutes. They added two further goals in the ninth and 10th minutes through Gearóid O' Connor and a Stephen Power free for a 3-5 to 0-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Mount Sion cut the lead back to seven points but a second goal from a free by Power left the champions trailing 4-6 to 0-8 at the break.
Mount Sion needed goals but a strong Gunners defence, in which veteran Fergal Hartley and Wayne Hutchinson were outstanding, stood firm.
