Waterford champions Ballygunner always looked the better side against Sarsfields of Cork in the Munster Club hurling first round replay at Walsh Park yesterday. The winners led by 1-6 to 1-3 at the interval. County star Paul Flynn, who was suspended for the drawn match, had found the net for the home side and Pat Ryan finding the net for Sarsfields. Flynn struck again seven minutes after the resumption to make it 2-8 to 1-5 and Ballygunner hit no less than 10 second half wides as they coasted to victory.
The second goal for Sarsfields five minutes from time, again from midfielder Ryan. It closed the gap to five points, but Michael Mahony struck at the other end almost immediately afterwards to clinch a provincial semi-final place for his team.
