Bangladesh revelled in the Cork sun yesterday when they scored a comprehensive 107-run win over Ireland A in a match which emphasised the professionalism of the visitors.

Batting on a Mardyke wicket that played true all day, Bangladesh motored to 257 for five, with Ireland A visibly wilting as the visitors put on over 90 runs in the final ten overs.

One felt that the target was beyond Ireland and so it proved to be. Opener Ted Williamson was caught at deep square trying to move the score along but the Corkman did not let his home support down.

In truth, it was Alamo resistance that brought the game as far as the 39th over, when Mahmud's swing accounted for Garry Neeley and wicketkeeper Peter Coleman in successive balls.

The fielding of the Bangladeshi team was on a par with the best Test nations. They hit the wicket five times from the deep and such was their skill in running out Mark Barriscale that a television replay, it if were available, would surely become a treasured item of film.

The serenity that is the Mardyke on a glorious summer day was shattered when, in the second over, Neeley ripped one back off a length and uprooted H Rafique's middle stump.

Ireland A were justifiably cocka-hoop but their exhilaration did not last long. Ahmed plundered the bowling and, with Rahman, brought Bangladesh to secure anchorage.

They were assisted by some sloppy Irish fielding, with three manageable catches being put down.

Ireland used seven bowlers, who, at times, were put to the sword.
