David Casey had the Glacial Storm gelding in front throughout, and the Cheltenham Bumper winner was reportedly idling in front when making a mistake at the last.
"He did a fantastic piece of work during the week but on that performance you would say he probably needs two and a half miles. We will run him again over two miles in the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle, and that will tell us more about what his best distance is," said Mullins.
The Ballymore Properties Morgiana Hurdle provided a rousing finish, with Nomadic overhauling Commanche Court on the runin to score by a length. Puget Blue lost a winning chance in the Stand House Hotel Craddockstown Novice Chase when falling at the last, leaving Ollimar to record his second win in the space of 48 hours with a five-length defeat of Total Success.
The Dennys Juvenile Hurdle is next on the agenda for Simulacrum, who led before two out to beat Miss Emer by two and a half lengths in the Texacloth Wool Merchants Hurdle.
