European Round-up: Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o struck twice to give the champions their first win of the season (2-0) against Real Mallorca last night.
Two goals in the space of five first-half minutes settled a Barcelona side who had looked edgy before going in front.
Mallorca self-destructed after the break and finished the game with nine men following the dismissals of defender Sergio Ballesteros and midfielder Francisco Farinos.
Early pace-setters Athletic Bilbao were held to a 1-1 draw at Bernd Schuster's Getafe after visiting defender Javier Casas cancelled out Daniel Guiza's exquisite lob.
Promoted Celta Vigo are top with six points following Saturday's 3-2 win over Real Madrid in the Bernabeu, with Galician neighbours Deportivo La Coruna second on goal difference.
On Saturday night a controversial second-half goal from Celta Vigo striker Nestor Canobbio gave his side a shock 3-2 win over Real Madrid in the Bernabeu to ruin Robinho's home debut. Canobbio's 78th-minute shot rebounded off the underside of the crossbar before bouncing clear and although TV replays suggested it did not cross the line, referee Ramirez Dominguez pointed to the centre circle.
Pablo Contreras put Celta ahead but when Diego Placente caught new signing Julio Baptista's heel Ronaldo slotted home the penalty.
Baptista then gave Madrid the lead after 44 minutes, heading home Ivan Helguera's diagonal cross after Celta had carelessly lost possession.
However, seconds later Francisco Pavon handled in the Madrid area and although Iker Casillas saved Canobbio's penalty former Liverpool winger Antonio Nunez headed home the rebound. England captain David Beckham was forced off with a thigh injury in the 78th minute before Canobbio's controversial winner. Real Betis, Liverpool's Champions League opponents this week, beat Osasuna 1-0 thanks to a goal from Ricardo Oliveira while Joan Capdevila's injury-time strike produced the same scoreline for Deportivo La Coruna to make it two wins out of two.
France forward David Trezeguet scored twice to help Italian champions Juventus romp to a 4-0 win at Empoli in Serie A yesterday and maintain a 100 per cent start to the season.
Juve were 3-0 up within 16 minutes thanks to Trezeguet's opener, compatriot Patrick Vieira's first goal for the club and a deflected strike from Mauro Camoranesi. Trezeguet completed the rout after the break with a lob as Fabio Capello's side picked up their second straight win.
Udinese, who will make their Champions League debut on Wednesday, also have two wins from two after a 1-0 victory at AS Roma, as do Livorno who won 1-0 at Treviso thanks to an injury-time goal from Cristiano Lucarelli. On Saturday, Inter Milan fell to a 3-2 defeat at Palermo and AC Milan beat Siena 3-1.
In the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich came from behind to beat Nuremberg 2-1 away to make it four victories from four this season and stretch their winning run to a record-equalling 13 games. The run stretches back to March last term.
Argentine defender Javier Pinola took a free kick that sailed past an unsighted Oliver Kahn to put Nuremberg ahead in the 20th minute but Paolo Guerrero equalised within 60 seconds. Bayern, missing injured Dutch striker Roy Makaay, let a handful of chances slip away before Michael Ballack's glancing header after 60 minutes sealed victory.
Werder Bremen tuned up for their Champions League clash against Barcelona with an outstanding 5-1 away win to Kaiserslautern.
