Alan Swinbank saddled his first Flat winner with only his fourth runner when veteran campaigner Batoutoftheblue showed his younger rivals a clean pair of heels in the Brian Clough's Birthday Stakes (Showcase Handicap) at Southwell yesterday.

Batoutoftheblue took up the running approaching the final furlong and was ridden out by Fergal Lynch to beat the hattrick seeking Kent by a comfortable three lengths.
