1999: 6th. Engine: Supertec. Past Drivers' Titles: 2. Past Constructors' Titles: 1.
Last season was nothing short of dreadful and 2000 is unlikely to be happier hunting ground for a team many perceive to be inexorably slipping down the F1 ranks. Despite bringing in a new design team to conjure up a better performer the team is still saddled with the seriously underpowered Supertec engine.
Giancarlo Fisichella (Ita)
1999: 9th. Age: 27. GP starts: 57. Total points: 49. Best result: 2nd. Best qualifying: 1 pole.
The Italian may be getting handsomely paid at Benetton but his career has ground to a halt in similar fashion to the cars he's driving. A waste of a potentially great talent.
Alexander Wurz (Aut)
1999: Joint 13th. Age: 26. GP starts: 35. Total points: 24. Best result: 3rd. Best qualifying: 5th
As with Fisichella, Wurz's promising career has come to a standstill as Benetton wallow in a mid-field mediocrity. The Austrian shone when given the chance to deputise for an ill Gerhard Berger in 1997, but since then he has struggled to recapture any of that spark.
