Jack Berry, who surprisingly announced his intention to step down at the end of next season, said yesterday that he still hopes to train a winner in the highest grade.

Cockerham-based Berry has broken many training records in a career spanning 30 years, saddling his 1,500th winner when Red Charger won at Redcar in May.

Speaking at Market Rasen races the 61-year-old said: "I would just like to win a Group One."

Berry's son Alan will be taking over the licence but Berry senior will still be involved working under the new master of Cockerham stables.
