Last Saturday turned into a very special day for Noel Mahony, the former president of the Irish Cricket Union, and president of the Leprechauns CC. Mahony celebrated his 87th birthday, won class three at Hermitage with 23 points and had his first ever hole-in-one. He hit a four iron at the fourth hole and followed with a birdie three at the par-four eighth. Now playing to a handicap of 25, Mahony won nine cricket caps for Ireland between 1947 and 1953 and was president ICU in 1979. A keen rugby player, he played with Dolphin before joining Clontarf. A teacher at The King's Hospital School until his retirement, he now plays golf four times a week.
