Zimbabwe's Byron Black said yesterday he expected Australia's Jason Stoltenberg would be out for revenge for a Davis Cup upset when they meet in the quarterfinals of the Australian men's hardcourt championships in Adelaide.
"He needs some (revenge)," fifth seed Black said after he had cruised into the last eight with a 63 6-2 second-round win over Romania's Andrei Pavel in a match interrupted by rain. Stoltenberg also beat Italy's Gianluca Pozzi 6-3 6-2. Black and his brother Wayne delivered one of the major upsets of the 1998 Davis Cup, bundling Australia out 3-2 in the first round before a stunned home crowd in Mildura.
Australian teenager Lleyton Hewitt faced a nervous wait in his bid to retain the title he won as a virtual unknown last year after rain forced the overnight suspension of his second round match against Czech Jiri Nowak with the score at 7-6 (7-2) 2-6 3-2 in the Australian's favour.
