MARK BLUNDELL was in a stable condition at a Miami hospital, undergoing X rays and diagnoses after crashing at nearly 200mph during practice runs at Indy car spring training in Homestead, Florida.

"His vital signs are okay. He's still conscious, and it seems like he'll be fine," spokeswoman Maria Gonzalez said shortly after Blundell was admitted to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The 31 year old driver was airlifted to the Miami hospital after crashing his Reynard Mercedes against the outside wall, between the first and second turns at the Metro Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex.

Blundell, who lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, was making practice runs in preparation for the 1997 season, which opens with the Grand Prix of Miami at the Homestead track on March 2nd.
