RACING:JOSEPH O'BRIEN received a big boost last night to his hopes of securing Ireland's apprentice jockey title when he won his appeal to the Turf Club against a two-day whip ban.
The son of champion trainer Aidan O’Brien, he trails his rivals Ben Curtis and Gary Carroll (37 winners each) by two.
He picked up the suspension on Mr Pianist at Dundalk on November 19th.
However, his appeal to the Turf Club’s appeals and referrals committee was successful last evening and he is free to ride in the remaining scheduled four fixtures at Dundalk before the season ends in nine days.
Champion amateur jockey Patrick Mullins withdrew his appeal yesterday against the severity of a six-day suspension he picked up at Naas on November 24th.
