Bray Wanderers 2 Sligo Rovers 1:Bray Wanderers, inspired by two early goals from Alan Cawley and Jay O'Shea, made sure of their place in the Premier Division next season with a narrow victory over Sligo Rovers at the Carlisle Grounds last night.

The Seagulls had the perfect start when a ball from winger Paddy Kavanagh was deflected into the path of Cawley after four minutes. The midfielder let fly from 16 yards with an angled shot into the top right-hand corner of the net.

Bray then stretched their lead on 12 minutes when the always dangerous Kavanagh outpaced Keith Foy on the left to send over an inch-perfect cross for the alert O'Shea to head home off the far post.

With that two-goal cushion in their favour Bray always looked in control although Gary Melly did have one effort from long range and then Ross McLoughlin shot straight at Williams after Stephen Manson had created the opening.

The fleet-footed Cawley again posed threats for the visitors in the second half. First he had a goal disallowed for offside by the assistant referee's flag and then fired in a dipping shot from 25 yards just over the bar.

Skipper Clive Delaney almost had Bray's third goal on 64 minutes when he burst through the middle after another excellent ball from Cawley only to collide with goalkeeper Arcaba just outside the area.

Foy came closest to scoring for Sligo on 82 minutes only to see his rocket shot from 35 yards brilliantly pushed over by Williams.

But the keeper blundered moments later when allowing McLoughlin's 30-yard effort in the wind sail over his head after Conor O'Grady had set up the chance in midfield.
