Sligo 0-10 Galway 1-6: Mark Breheny kicked a pressure free three minutes into stoppage-time to secure a dramatic victory for Sligo in the the FBD Connacht League at Tuam Stadium yesterday. The match-winner completed a remarkable comeback by Dominic Corrigan's side, who trailed by 1-6 to 0-2 six minutes into the second half.
Sligo failed to score from play during the opening half, with Padraic Joyce kicking a brace of points from frees and one from play for a Galway side who were well on top. They opened up a 1-4 to 0-2 interval lead when Cathal Blake and John Devane combined to send Cormac Bane through for a goal.
When Bane and Joyce extended Galway's lead early in the second half, it seemed that they were about to crown their return to the FBD League - for the first time in three years - with a win.
Sligo had other ideas, however, and with Charlie Harrison and Jonathan Davey outstanding in defence, they began to claw their way back with Breheny and Seán Davey leading the way up front. Breheny pointed two frees within a minute and then added two more after Davey found the range from play.
The margin was reduced to the minimum nine minutes from time when Davey landed another point. He then levelled the match in the final minute, with an effort from 50 yards, before Breheny kicked the winner over from a 14-yard free.
