Gavin Brown of Crumlin BC takes another important step in his promising boxing career at the National Stadium tonight.

Brown, a nephew of author Christy, has Jamie Dowling of Paulstown as his bantamweight opponent in the semi-finals of the National Junior (under-18) championships. Dowling is a nephew of former Irish champion Mick.

Another link with the past will be provided in the light-welterweight semi-final when a nephew of former Irish ring icon Gerry Hamill of Belfast, Thomas Hamill, goes in against Larne's Kark Hogg.
