Colaiste Iosaef, Kilmallock 2-9; Shannon Schools 0-10: Eoin Burchell carved a slice of history for Coláiste Iosaef, Kilmallock, yesterday, when he struck two late goals to catapult them into their first Dr Harty Cup semi-final at the expense of Shannon Schools, who had looked the likely winners in a one-sided opening period.
Coláiste Iosaef, competing in the competition for only the second time, and with a school roll book of less than 150, seemed to have taken a step too far after Damien Browne, with six pointed frees, had lively Shannon in control, with just two in response from Shane O'Donnell and Paudie O'Brien.
The Clare school, with Seán Stack in commanding form at wing back and Cathal King an authoritative figure alongside him, kept a firm grip to the halfway stage, at 0-8 to 0-4.
Coláiste Iosaef were still three in arrears, 0-10 to 0-7, entering the last quarter, when they struck a golden patch.
Gavin O'Mahony and John McManus gave them territorial advantage and Burchell cashed in with goals in the 47th and 58th minutes. He knocked over a further two points in between. Shannon failed to add to their tally over the same period as Coláiste Iosaef marched on to their first semi-final.
