A superb undefeated 88 by Robert Byrne helped to steer The Hills to a thrilling three-wicket victory over Pembroke in the Leinster Senior II Cup final at Castle Avenue on Saturday. The Fingal side needed 21 to win off the last three overs, and a huge six from Byrne enabled them to reach the target, with just six balls to spare.
As Pembroke batted first, their top batsman was Emmett Whaley, who hit an admirable 79, well supported by Dixon Butler, Graham Toomey, Ronnie Byrne and Conor Dwyer. John Archer had a fine match for The Hills, taking two catches, and was his team's second-highest scorer, with 58, while Sean Hoare and Nadeem Akhtar contributed 40 and 21, respectively.
