DAVID CAMPESE, the leading try scorer in the history of international rugby with 63 for Australia and the third most capped player in the game with 92 international appearances, will play for the Barbarians in the peace international against Ireland at Lansdowne Road this day fortnight.
Campese confirmed yesterday that he will travel for the match and said, "while it means travelling from the other side of the world and I want that like a hole in the head, there is no way I would miss this game. I think the concept behind the match is excellent and I have fantastic memories of playing in Ireland. I am delighted at the prospect of playing there again and of being involved in this match."
Only Frenchmen Phillipe Sella with 106, and Serge Blanco, with 93, have more caps than Campese. And some of Campese's most memorable performances have been given at Lansdowne Road, such as against Ireland in the World Cup in 1991 and a week later against New Zealand in the World Cup semi final.
While 16 of Campese's international appearances were at full back, the man who has made most appearances on the wing at international level, Rory Underwood, will also be playing for the Barbarians. Underwood has played in 90 internationals, 84 for England and six for the Lions.
The Barbarians team will be announced on Tuesday.
