Carlow go under to Bohemians

Ul/Bohemians remain unbeaten in Thomond Park after a weekend in which they took their biggest scalp in the campaign. In dramatic fashion, Carlow, who were topping the table before Saturday, left Limerick 22-20 down and in the process relinquished their lead to Old Belvedere.

A drop goal and a penalty from Ian Costello put Bohemians ahead before Carlow fullback Matt Waterhouse kicked a penalty. A converted try from Conor Fitzgerald put the home side 13-3 ahead at the break before Carlow replied through Mark Buckley. But Costello was on fine form and as the match inched towards what looked like a 20-19 Carlow win, he kicked the decisive penalty.

Old Belvedere took advantage of the Carlow defeat but only just. A one-point win over Portadown which included four tries also gave them a bonus point and now a two-point lead at the top of the table.

UCD went one better with five tries against Wanderers for whom Owen Cobbe kicked the entire haul of four penalties and a drop goal. The win puts the students firmly into third place.
