News: Although Derry ended Carlow's unbeaten start to 2005, it was the Leinster side who were celebrating after their 0-12 to 0-15 point defeat as it they who now qualify for the National Hurling League Division Two final.
Derry's three-point victory in Lavey left them tied with their visitors on both points and scoring difference but Carlow progress to meet Offaly because of their higher scoring tally.
With five minutes remaining Carlow were 0-7 to 0-15 down but managed the all-important five-point haul thanks largely to the free-taking of Pat Coady.
Meanwhile, on Saturday Kildare and Kerry footballers drew 2-13 to 1-16 in a challenge match in Naas while Wicklow footballers beat their Louth counterparts by 2-20 to 0-9 in Dunlavin.
