Carlow IT 0-12 Wexford 0-10:Two late points helped Carlow IT fashion a surprise victory over Wexford in this second round tie at Bunclody last night.
It was an experimental Wexford side, but they will be disappointed at having gone down to their second successive defeat. Very little separated the sides through the opening quarter at the end of which the sides were level 0-3 each, but it was the college side who finished the half strongest with points from Ben Brosnan and Brian Hurley to lead 0-6 to 0-5 at the interval.
Wexford dominated the opening 10 minutes on the resumption with points from Paddy Byrne, Kevin O’Grady and Adrian Flynn to lead 0-9 to 0-7, but with Carlow IT stepping up their game they got back level with points from Fergal Conway and Brian Hurling.
Wexford were unable to turn their late possession into scores and it was Carlow IT who again finished strongest adding points through Cian Reynolds and Darragh Mulhall to fashion a deserved two-point victory in the end.
