Munsters' Schools/Castletroy College 14 Rockwell College 8:Castletroy are in only their second season at this level but yesterday's win in the Munster Senior Cup quarter-final against the traditional power that is Rockwell showed they belong.
Kilfeacle RFC stepped in at mid-morning to host the clash after Clonmel was deemed unplayable, and not surprisingly, the going made for a forward-dominated game.
Castletroy lost the toss and so needed to make the most of the wind in the first half. That they did, and a 14-0 lead at the break came courtesy of tries from their wingers, Darren Moroney and Colm Dillon, in the 12th and 33rd minutes after opportunistic kicks into each corner from scrumhalf Peter Murray and fullback Cormac Joyce Power.
Lock Darragh Frawley converted on both occasions.
The Rockwell fullback Shane Luby reduced the deficit with a penalty three minutes after the break, and a try from flanker Paddy Butler was a 62nd-minute reward for persistent drives at the Castletroy line.
It gave hope to Rockwell butCastletroy held out and will now face the winners of today's clash between the 2007 champions PBC and St Munchin's of Limerick.
