Munster Schools'/CBC Cork 13 Ardscoil Rís 6:Odhran Mulrooney emerged as the Christians' hero in their hard-fought Munster Schools' Senior Cup quarter-final victory over Ardscoil Rís, Limerick in demanding conditions at the Mardyke yesterday.
The fullback accounted for all his side's scores, including the game's only try after 57 minutes, which separated the teams at the finish.
Mulrooney converted his own score and landed two penalties as well.
For a plucky Ardscoil outfit, outhalf Jamie Gavin kicked a couple of penalties that helped the Limerick school lead 6-3 at half-time.
The visitors started well and jumped 3-0 in front inside two minutes only for Mulrooney to respond 15 minutes later before Gavin reclaimed the advantage almost immediately.
Christians, for whom captain Brian O'Callaghan was a central figure at number eight, levelled a second time six minutes into the second half before his clever kick set-up the winning try.
