KILDARE SFC QUARTER-FINALS:ST LAURENCE'S remain on target to retain the Kildare SFC title they won for the first time last year after accounting for Maynooth by 0-14 to 1-8 in the quarter-final.
The Narraghmore parish outfit raced into an eight-point lead in the first half, with county minor Pádraig Fogarty causing mayhem in the Maynooth defence and senior player Pádraig O’Neill and his brother Tommy, a former Kildare senior, also prominent.
Karl Ennis stood out for Maynooth but last year’s Leinster intermediate champions never looked like causing a shock.
Darroch Mulhall and Cian Reynolds were the primary threats for a young Athy team as they strolled to a 2-10 to 0-3 win over a very disappointing Kilcock.
The south Kildare teams who qualified on Saturday will be joined in the semi-finals by the Newbridge contingent of Moorefield and Sarsfields, who prevailed from yesterday’s ties.
The Moores had to show all their battling qualities to overcome Allenwood. In the end, it was a goal from one of their Kildare players, Ronan Sweeney, that separated them from the Johnny Doyle-inspired Blues as they advanced courtesy of a 1-8 to 0-8 scoreline.
Sarsfields never looked like losing in the other quarter-final and had five points to spare over Naas 0-14 to 0-9. The draw for the semi-finals will take place tonight.
