Bray Wanderers continued their promising start to the season as a goal from central defender Wesley Charles on the half-hour was enough to give them the points in a low-key encounter at the Carlisle Grounds last night.

The home side are now unbeaten in their last 17 home league games but were relieved to hold onto that record against a team who so many times in the recent past have proved their bogey team, but this time Wanderers made it three games unbeaten in the top flight.

Bray, who made just one change from the starting side that drew 1-1 with Cork City at Turner's Cross on Good Friday with Stephen Fox taking over from Barry McGrory in attack, rarely threatened in the early stages.

Former Irish under-21 striker Eamon Zayed did have on opportunity when he had a shot blocked by College defender Alan McNally. From the rebound Zayed's effort was wide of the target.

The Students went close to breaking the deadlock when midfielder Paul Dicker headed just over from close range after a precision cross from defender Alan Mahon.

But it was Bray who went in front. Accepting a Robbie Dunne throw-in on the right, Jody Lynch played a clever through ball to Philip Keogh. His effort was deflected into the path of Charles and the St Vincent/Grenadines international rifled home an angled shot from 12 yards that gave goalkeeper Darren Quigley no chance.

Bray had a let-off on 73 minutes when a cross by Robbie Martin on the left found Damien Dupuy in the clear but he headed wide when it looked easier to score.
