Manager: Alan Curbishley
Did tremendously well last season when they won a great many admirers for the style of football they played and the quality of the individual players within the team.
The Republic of Ireland pair, Dean Kiely and Mark Kinsella, are amongst the best, while Jonatan Johansson was also particularly impressive. This year Jason Euell will provide further strength and pace in attack and Luke Young versatility at the back. Curbishley has also bought in South Africa's Shaun Bartlett, but admits that the cost of redeveloping The Valley prevented him from spending more.
Even as it is the squad should be good enough to achieve another decent mid-table finish and perhaps a cup run.
