Drogheda look to get back into Europe

DROGHEDA United will look to boost their challenge for a top-three league finish this evening by beating a Sligo Rovers side that have taken just one point from their last four outings.

The league champions have a string of problems ahead of the game. Stuart Byrne and Paul Keegan are suspended while Dan Connor is still out.

Hamstring injuries may sideline both Shane Barrett and Richie Baker - a decision on the pair is only likely to be taken during the lead-up to kick-off.

Paul Doolin says he is simply aiming to see his side - now trailing Bohemians by 23 points - finish the campaign as strongly as possible and the hope is that they might grab a place in Europe for next season, although in that context they look to have their work cut out.

Sligo have Steve Feeney out again as a result of an ankle injury sustained just a week after he returned from a long lay-off. Matthew Judge is still sidelined but Danny Ventre returns from suspension.

In the night's other top-flight game Galway United travel to Cobh for a relegation six-pointer with the home side set to be left looking stranded at the foot of the table if they lose.

Jeff Kenna, who expressed some pride in the way his side performed in last week's defeat by Bohemians but disappointment with their lack of cutting edge in front of goal, has John Lester suspended while Alan Keane (knee) and Ollie Fenn (viral infection) are both out for another week or two.

The home side, without a win in 10 league outings, have Shane Guthrie and Colin O'Brien suspended while Martin Cambridge also starts a three-match ban from the dugout. - Emmet Malone
