Cheika tweaks some more

Rugby Celtic League/Leinster v Llanelli RDS:For the third successive week Michael Cheika has performed minor surgery on his starting XV to ensure candidates get an opportunity to prove their worth ahead of European action (which starts with the visit of the Leicester Tigers on November 10th).

There are three particularly interesting selections. Firstly, Cheika stays true to his word by starting two specialist number sevens, Keith Gleeson and Shane Jennings, in the backrow with Jamie Heaslip. Blindside Jennings should be comfortable having alternated openside duties with Lewis Moody at Leicester.

Fergus McFadden clearly did enough in last week's bonus point victory in Cardiff to be retained at outside centre for only his second start. Luke Fitzgerald may also get some game time there as Leinster try to establish a regular understudy for the captain.

Cillian Willis is preferred to Chris Keane at scrumhalf although the former Connacht player is named in reserve with vice-captain Chris Whitaker rested. Juan Gomez is at loosehead prop to allow Stephen Knoop another run at tighthead.

A decision on Leo Cullen's fitness will be made closer to kick-off. Devon Toner is primed to come in.

The Scarlets ground out the points at home to Connacht last week but this represents the last opportunity to catch the champions without their large international contingent.

Matt Williams noted this week how much the province had improved behind the scenes since his time in charge, when they were housed in porta-cabins in the Old Belvedere car-park without a toilet! This continuing progress should to be transferred on to the pitch tonight.
