A fine innings of 59 by Thinus Fourie and Johhny Barry's dashing 36-run knock, allied to good bowling from James Flynn and Mark Jones, helped steer Clontarf to a decisive Leinster Senior 50 Overs League victory over Rush at Kenure yesterday. Fourie faced 108 deliveries and hit five fours, while Barry's runs came off 38 balls and included two sixes and a four.
The Rush batsmen offered little real resistance in response, apart from the patient Robert McGuinness, whose 24 was hit off 87 deliveries in 107 minutes. Flynn and Jones, taking four and three wickets apiece respectively, were Clontarf's most successful bowlers.
Meanwhile, the Ireland Women's team will play two one-day matches against Staffordshire later this month, both at College Park on Saturday May 26th and Sunday May 27th. Nikki Squire has taken over as captain from Miriam Grealey, and the vice-captain is Anne Linehan.
