The final round of the Ford of Ireland Championship for the new Zetec-powered cars takes place at Mondello this weekend and after nine races Noel Dunne (Naas) leads on 76 points from Ulsterman Jeff Wright (74).
The penultimate rounds of two more championships are featured on Sunday. In the Formula Opel series Donal Loughrey on 119 points leads Vivion Daly (115), Ken Grandon (105), Jonathan Fildes (61), Adrian Pollock (60) and Mark Kershaw (58).
Galway Motor Club has 130 entries and no less than 60 reserves for Sunday's Partway Galway Summer Rally. With just three rounds remaining, Belfast dentist John Gilleece holds an 18-point lead over Charlie Donnelly in the Coras National Rally Championship. There is a three-way tie for third with Michael Barrable, Frank O'Mahony and David Armstrong on 96 points each. Gilleece will be in his faithful Ford Escort RS Cosworth for the Galway event, but Donnelly is taking a big gamble as he steps out of his Opel Manta for an unfamiliar, but potentially more competitive, Toyota Celica GT4.
The event starts from Partway on the Tuam Road out of Galway, covering 3x3 stages at Roxborough, Boleybeg and Ballybroder, with service on the N6 between Loughrea and Craughwell.
Tomorrow's Carrowdore 100 races have been postponed as a mark of respect for Diana, Princess of Wales. This final Ulster road races of the year have been rescheduled for September 27th.
