TODAY
Laois SHC Final replay
Clough-Ballacolla v Rathdowney- Errill, O’Moore Park, 3.45pm – Rathdowney-Errill were disappointed to lose a five-point lead late in the match but equally, mightily relieved when Ross King’s quality finish drew them level at the death.
Cork SFC Semi-final
Castlehaven v Carbery Rangers, Páirc Uí Rinn, 7.15pm – The west Cork derby is a repeat of last year’s semi-final, which Castlehaven won well. Down to 12 men by the whistle Carbery hung on to beat Bishopstown. They can improve on last year but probably won’t reverse the result.
Donegal SFC Semi-final
St Eunan’s v Dungloe, Ballybofey, 8pm – The Letterkenny club are favourites to get through against Dungloe, who dethroned champions Glenswilly in the quarter-finals but who in the process lost Raymond Sweeney to injury.
TOMORROW
Carlow SHC
Mount Leinster Rangers v Erin’s Own, Bagenalstown, Dr Cullen Park, 3.45pm – All-Ireland intermediate champions MLR get the nod to add the county title.
Clare SFC
Kilmurry-Ibrickane v St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield, Cusack Park, 3.30pm – Last year St Joseph’s contested the final and got a spanking from the champions. John Kennedy’s team should retain the title but a more competitive challenge is expected.
Derry SFC Final
Ballinderry v Slaughtneil, Celtic Park, 3.30pm – Ballinderry are favourites for this but a team still built around the core of the side that won the All-Ireland 11 seasons ago isn’t getting any younger. Like their opponents they have a base of players from a previous success and with former Sydney Swans player Chris McKaigue marshalling the defence, the underdogs here have real teeth.
Down SFC Final
Kilcoo v Mayobridge, Newry, 4pm – Mayobridge will be hoping to avenge the defeat three years ago that put paid to their six-in-a-row ambitions. Although they haven’t won the title since they can edge past Kilcoo in this.
Dublin SFC Semi-finals
Kilmacud Crokes v St Brigid’s, 2.15pm; Ballymun Kickhams v St Jude’s, 4pm, Parnell Park – Fresh from Atlantis, the first semi-final brings together the reigning champions and their predecessors with Crokes marginally favoured to edge out their efficient opponents. In the second match Ballymun’s emerging talent can get them past a Jude’s team showcasing good form from Dublin’s Kevin McManamon.
Kildare SFC Final
Carbury v Sarsfields, Newbridge, 3.45pm – Although the Newbridge club are back in the final as favourites they are certainly not radiating the same wattage of star power as in the past. Eoghan and Morgan O’Flaherty are the leaders for Carbury – the latter playing as sweeper in a defence that has entirely changed since last year. They could pull off a shock.
Laois SFC Final
Portlaoise v Arles-Kilcruise, O’Moore Park, 3.45pm – On the trail of six titles on the spin, Portlaoise have the advantage of strength-in-depth in their panel. Arles-Kilcruise will be under pressure to hold the line against the free-moving champions. Ross Munnelly will carry much of the responsibility up front.
Limerick SFC Final
Dromcollogher Broadford v Newcastle West, Gaelic Grounds, 3.30pm – As the leading club in the county over the past 10 years, Drom will fancy their chances but a year ago in the semi-finals Newcastle cut loose on them, using pace and improvisation to telling effect. If rumours about Seán Buckley’s fitness turn out to be just that, they can take their revenge.
Longford SFC replay
Longford Slashers v Emmet Óg, Killoe, Pearse Park, 3.30 – Killoe nearly blew their chances through serial inaccuracy but survived in a controversial finish. They may have learned enough in the process.
Mayo SFC Final
Ballintubber v Ballaghaderreen, MacHale Park, 3.30pm – Champions Ballintubber have the distinction of chasing a possible first three-in-a-row since Garrymore in the mid-1970s. Their well-drilled system has proved hard to break down and although they are missing county sharp shooter Cillian O’Connor, Ballaghaderreen have their own problems with Andy Moran’s famous cruciate injury sidelining him.
Meath SHC Final
Killyon v Kiltale, Páirc Tailteann, 3.30pm – Kiltale are favoured having unhorsed three-in-a-row champions Kildalkey but it’s expected to be close against an experienced Killyon.
Westmeath SFC Final
Mullingar Shamrocks v Garrycastle, Cusack Park, 3.45pm – Galway All-Ireland winner Paul Clancy has taken over from Anthony Cunningham and the change has added fresh impetus to the champions, who should retain their title.
Donegal SFC Semi-final
Naomh Conaill v Four Masters, Letterkenny, 4pm – Naomh Conaill should have too much for Karl Lacey’s Four Masters, who had to go to extra time two evenings ago to spring a surprise on St Michael’s.
Ulster SFC First Round
Mullahoran (Cavan) v Errigal Ciarán (Tyrone), Kingspan Breffni Park, 3.30pm – World champion handballer Paul Brady lines out for Mullahoran but even with his best efforts combined with home advantage it’ll be a struggle against Errigal.
