Carlow outclassed Roscommon at Athleague yesterday to take their first brace of points. Inspired by centre forward Pat Coady, who scored 1-8, the visitors led by three points (0-8 to 0-5) at the interval.
The game took a decisive turn eight minutes after the re-start when a foul by Roscommon's young goalkeeper David Casey gave Carlow their first goal from a Coady penalty. Two minutes later John Leamy's first-time pull went all the way to the Roscommon net and when full forward Des Murphy netted midway through the half the contest was over.
