MEN'S HOCKEY:DESPITE TAKING a 3-0 lead yesterday in their Irish Hockey League match, Monkstown fell to Lisnagarvey 4-5.

Gareth Watkins, Stephen Cole and Filip Jaros hit a goal each as the home side swept ahead in the only match of the three rescheduled games to take place.

Both Pembroke's match against Instonians and Annadale's game with Cookstown were not played due to frosted pitches.

Lisnagarvey hit back just after the break through Timmy Cockram before Monkstown captain Gareth Watkins struck his side's fourth goal for a 4-1 lead.

However, two more goals from Cockram to give him a hat-trick, as well as scores from Stuart McNeice and Jason Lynch, four minutes from the end, ensured the important win for the Ulster side.

In the Leinster Senior League, Railway Union pulled off the upset of the season with a 2-1 win over Three Rock Rovers.

It was Rovers' first league defeat in over a year. Paul O'Brien put Railway ahead before Eoin McArthur added another to go two ahead. While Rovers came back in the second half and grabbed a goal back through Michael Maguire, Railway held on to claim all the points.

YMCA earned a welcome point at the expense of Monkstown in a 1-1 draw when Will Powderly nicked a late goal for YM after Alec Barrett had put Monkstown a goal up, while Corinthians came off the best in an eight goal game against Fingal. Having lost to Fingal at the start of the season, Corinthians came out 5-3 winners second time around.

In Kilkenny, Glenanne, who were missing their seasoned internationals Stephen Butler and Graham Shaw, were almost the second surprise victims of the weekend, but came out 4-3 winners. Although the visitors went three goals up, Kilkenny fought back in the second period.
