Champions League Quarter-final, first leg/Lyon - 1 PSV Eindhoven - 1: A late equaliser by veteran Philip Cocu gave PSV Eindhoven an upset draw at Olympique Lyon last night. Lyon, who dominated for most of the match, opened the scoring with a Florent Malouda goal in the 12th minute but the Dutch side equalised through Cocu with 11 minutes to go.
Lyon took the game to PSV with attacking duo Sylvain Wiltord and Sidney Govou, and PSV's defence were soon caught off balance when Govou outmanoeuvred two defenders and passed to Wiltord. Wiltord let the ball run square to Malouda in front of goal whose right-footed strike left goalkeeper Gomes with no chance in the 12th minute.
PSV tried to react but Lyon continued to create chances. Mickael Essien had a header saved by Gomes in the 34th minute and hit the post with a shot four minutes later.
In the second half, PSV succeeded in disrupting the rhythm imposed by the hosts as Lyon created only one more chance when Govou had a shot saved by Gomes.
The physical superiority of the PSV midfield proved a key issue as Cocu found the net with his side's first clear chance, slotting in a left-foot shot in the 79th minute.
