Chroist Ri 0-7 West Limerick Coll 0-3:Coláiste Chríost Rí booked their Corn Uí Mhuiri semi-final spot with a measured display against debutants West Limerick Colleges in trying conditions in Mallow yesterday.
The Cork side led 0-4 to 0-1 at half-time after playing with the wind.
Early points from a Ryan Kennedy free and Stephen Cronin from play helped them settle quickly and Chríost Rí added two more from a Kennedy ’45 and a Conor Horgan free after 15 minutes.
But the former champions couldn’t add to their tally with Jack Breen obliging with the only other score in the half for West Limerick Colleges, three minutes from the interval.
Chríost Rí jumped 0-6 to 0-1 clear inside five minutes of the resumption, when Horgan pointed a free and wing-back Cian Walsh swept forward to bag the game’s best score.
West Limerick Colleges needed a goal to get back into contention only for Gavin Reidy to be denied by a flying Craig O’Donovan save 11 minutes from the end.
Jamie O’Connor pointed the subsequent ’45 and Breen kicked a free but Horgan ensured his side’s progress with an injury-time clincher.
