Connacht hope to bounce back

Connacht v Llanelli Dubarry Park, 7

Connacht v Llanelli Dubarry Park, 7.0Rugby Celtic League: For this repeat of the Celtic Cup quarter-final, which they won in Stradey Park a few weeks ago, and their first game back in Dubarry Park, Athlone, Connacht show two changes to the side that lost to Leinster last week.

Coach Michael Bradley has brought back scrumhalf Mike Walls - who missed the Leinster match through injury - with Paul Neville coming in at blind-side flanker.

Llanelli, third on the table behind second-placed Ulster and leaders Neath-Swansea, have lost only once in five outings, kicker Gareth Bowen leading the points table with Neath-Swansea's Gavin Henson. Both have 91 points with Bowen on target with all of his last nine kicks at goal.

His return, overall, is almost 90 per cent, so discipline will be foremost in Connacht's thoughts.

With a lively crowd in Athlone and Leinster's win in Donnybrook still smarting, Connacht will seek to find the vein of form that delivered them four wins from their first five matches. Conor McPhillps on three tries is just behind Edinburgh's leading finisher, Derrick Lee.

Stats show that the Welsh team are a better second-half side, 62 per cent of their tries coming then, with Connacht indicating that they are a marginally better first-half side, seven of their 12 tries coming before 40 minutes.

Mark McHugh, a strong presence at full back, and able to launch kicks from farther out than Eric Elwood, has been a prominent presence, while the injury-stricken front row has coped well. The Connacht back row of captain Tom Carter, Paul Neville and John O'Sullivan are having a great season to date.

Llanelli are without captain and international centre Leigh Davies, but that won't distract them and Connacht look set have a battle on their hands.
