HOCKEY: Fortune favoured the younger of the Henderson brothers, Charlie, who made three saves from penalties after extra time had failed to resolve Corinthians' Irish Senior Cup quarter-final match against Banbridge.

While Charlie's saves put Corinthians through to the semi-finals, where they now face Cork Harlequins on March 1st, Irish goalkeeper and brother Nigel went out of the competition as Pembroke fell 4-3 on penalties to Cork Harlequins at Serpentine Avenue after the sides failed to advance on 1-1 after extra time.

For Corinthians, the win marks just reward for twice coming back into the match against the Ulster visitors. Ross McCandless opened for Banbridge from a corner, before Aaron Clauson equalised on 70 minutes, pushing the match into extra time.

McCandless put Banbridge ahead just two minutes in, but again Clauson reacted from another corner for 2-2. Finally Corinthians, with good goalkeeping from Henderson, squeezed through for their next cup appointment against Harlequins.

The Cork side went a goal down to Pembroke at Serpentine Avenue after Irish striker Gordon Elliott struck after 15 minutes. That lead lasted until 11 minutes after the break, when Paul Lombard came out of the sin bin and equalised on 46 minutes.

Again the sides failed to separate after extra time, with Harlequins squeezing through 4-3 on penalties.

Less anxious were Cork C of I's win over travelling Glenanne and Lisnagarvey's victory over last year's champions Instonians in the all-Ulster clash. John Jermyn, sharp from his week in Barcelona with the Irish squad, put C of I ahead after 12 minutes from play, with former international Ali Dunne adding the second soon after the break.

While Glenanne laid on serious pressure, with Alan Brown and Joe Brennan shaving the bar and post in the second half, the Dublin side got nothing from it, returning 2-0 down.

C of I now meet Lisnagarvey in Blaris in the most difficult venue of any for their semi-final meeting.

Lisnagarvy went down to an early goal from Chris Barnes before working their way back into the match and finally over-running the holders. Philip Sterling equalised on 37 minutes, with Kevin Lunn adding the second just 10 minutes later. Finally Timmy Cockram put the lid on the match when he fired in the home side's third goal on 52 minutes for a final 3-1 scoreline.
