Camogie: Classy Cork booked their place in the Foras na Gaeilge All-Ireland semi-final on August 20th following their 2-16 to 2-7 victory over Wexford on Saturday in Wexford Park.
When these two sides meet there is usually never much between them and the opening half promised another close encounter.
An early point from captain Elaine Burke settled Cork's nerves and after 18 minutes new found full-forward Stephanie Dunlea crashed the ball to the Wexford net to put Cork ahead, 1-2 to Wexford's 0-3.
However a goal four minutes before the break from Mags Kelly helped Wexford edge into a 1-5 to 1-4 interval lead.
But that was the last time Wexford led as the second half belonged entirely to Cork. From the third minute of the second period Cork took a grip on proceedings following Jennifer O'Leary's first free.
They added a further nine points before Wexford could find the posts thanks to Michelle Hearne's point.
Sarah O'Donovan crashed home Cork's second goal before Kate Kelly grabbed a late consolation goal for Wexford.
Meanwhile, reigning All-Ireland champions Tipperary made no mistake in their opening championship match of 2005 when they defeated Kilkenny 0-13 to 1-6 in Nowlan Park on Saturday.
Kilkenny started well with an Imelda Kennedy free after 10 minutes but once Joanne Ryan sent over the champions' opener Tipperary took control.
They added a further six points from five players before the break while Kilkenny could only manage points in reply from Kennedy and 2004 All-Star Sinéad Millea. Tipperary led 0-7 to 0-3 at the interval.
Points from Claire Grogan and Emer McDonnell helped Tipperary maintain their dominance in the second half though Kilkenny goalkeeper Caitriona Ryan produced a superb save to deny Jill Horan a goal.
Kilkenny's Marie O'Connor scored the game's only goal with four minutes to go to leave just three points between the sides but Horan's late point secured Tipperary's victory.
