Cork City 0 UCD 0: UCD coped comfortably with a disappointing Cork City in a game of few thrills and precious little good football at Turner's Cross last night.
Cork's lack of urgency was a huge disappointment to their fans in an attendance of 3,500. Once again UCD proved a bogey team for them. UCD surprised Cork in the FAI Cup competition here last season.
A bumpy playing surface was of no help to either team but still the level of football left a lot to be desired. It was only in the closing 15 minutes that Cork succeeded in putting pressure on the UCD defence. George O'Callaghan forced UCD goalkeeper Darren Quigley into an excellent save with a powerful header from six yards following a free from Danny Murphy with 10 minutes left to play.
O'Callaghan shot wildly over when well positioned and Kevin Doyle was narrowly wide with a shot that sped across the face of the goal as Cork finally showed some initiative.
Centre backs Tony McDonnell and Alan McNally played major roles for UCD and their central midfielders Gary Dicker and Stephen Hurley exerted a lot of influence in a battling UCD performance.
