Cork City's hopes of taking the league championship plummeted at Turner's Cross yesterday where poor finishing cost them dearly against bottom club Waterford United.
Cork dominated but with goalkeeper Michael Devine in outstanding form for Waterford they showed little conviction in attack.
It took the introduction of veteran striker, John Caulfield to produce some measure of cheer for Cork and he injected the penetration that had earlier been lacking after his introduction in the 53rd minute.
Caulfield stretched Devine with one left foot shot from the edge of the penalty area and then gave Patsy Freyne a glorious chance with a clever headed pass, but Freyne mis-kicked the ball.
