FAI Cup/ Cork City 5 Kilkenny City 1: Three goals in a five-minute period of the first half gave Cork City a grip on this FAI Ford Cup third round tie at Turner's Cross, they were never likely to lose despite Kilkenny City's growing challenge.

Cork had the result secured by the 21st minute as a very defensive Kilkenny gifted them two goals in a nervous opening spell for the First Division side.

The first goal arrived in the 16th minute and reflected the lack of organisation in the crowded Kilkenny penalty area. Dan Murray headed a free from Gareth Farrelly across the six yards box and Brian O'Callaghan poked the ball home.

The Kilkenny defence meekly surrendered two goals in a three-minute spell. Leon McSweeney knocked in the first as goalkeeper Jim McDonnell failed to hold a shot from John O'Flynn in the 19th minute. Colin Healy scored from the rebound after Paraic Fogarty had lost possession to O'Flynn and goalkeeper O'Donnell had done well to turn his shot aside.
