ALL-IRELAND MHC QUARTER-FINAL Dublin 3-13 Antrim 1-11:DUBLIN'S MINOR hurlers were able to do what their senior counterparts could not by beating Antrim to secure a place in the latter stages of the All-Ireland championship.
After overcoming the Ulster side at Crossmaglen on Saturday, Dublin are now through to the All-Ireland semi-final, where they will meet Clare.
John Murphy’s side had to come from behind after a Daniel McCloskey goal helped Antrim into an early 1-3 to 0-1 lead.
Two Cormac Costello goals in the first half stabilised Dublin and when Antrim captain Matthew Donnelly was harshly sent off for a high challenge Dublin took firm control. Points from Cillian Moffat and Dean Flood followed to give Dublin a half-time lead of 2-6 to 1-6.
Fergal Heavey’s goal in the opening minute of the second half effectively put the game beyond Antrim.
While their duo of James Black and Ciarán Clarke showed much endeavour Dublin’s potency in the full-forward line and composure in defence meant the Leinster side were never seriously threatened in the second half.
Conor McCann’s successive scores midway through the second half failed to reinvigorate Antrim as Dublin continued to benefit from the extra space the first-half dismissal afforded them.
Dublin’s greater squad depth was underlined when John Hetherton, Niall Ryan and Niall Maguire all came off the bench to score.
