PGA rookie Rich Beem fired eight birdies, two from 25 feet to conclude a four-under par 67 round, and stretched his lead to three strokes midway through the Kemper Open.

Ireland's Richard Coughlan, who lost his tour card after his rookie season last year, failed to make the cut.
