Down SFC Final replay/ Mayobridge 1-8 Longstone 0-9:Mayobridge won their fourth title in a row when they proved just too strong for a gallant Longstone in an exciting and fiercely fought final replay in Páirc Esler, Newry, yesterday.
Both sides produced some great football in keeping with the high standards set in the drawn game.
Scores were slow in coming in the first half as the sides finished 0-4 each at half-time. Three times in the third quarter points were exchanged as the sides remained locked at 0-7 each.
Enter Benny Coulter, who had come into the attack minutes after half-time. He lobbed over a point and seven minutes from time he outfielded full back Eamon Quinn, turned and shot to the net. When Brendan Rooney added a point the champions were on a roll.
Longstone came back with two Barry Doran points but in a hectic finish Mayobridge held out for victory.
