SLIGO GS 17 - 14 PORTUMNA CS: Sligo Grammar School snatched victory deep into added time in this exciting Connacht Schools Senior Cup semi-final at Portumna yesterday.
The hosts took the lead on eight minutes with a try from prop Brian Campbell out on the right.
Sligo full back Mark Butler missed with a 22-metre penalty attempt on six minutes, but he made amends with a similar effort on 24 minutes.
Portumna increased their lead in the 53rd minute with a penalty goal from left wing Ger Lyons from just outside the visitors' 22.
Sligo GS came storming back with a great back line move which paid dividends on the hour when outhalf Paul Gillespie initiated a break and fed Butler, who passed at speed to in-rushing centre Brian Taylor. He ran from nearly the half-way line for a try, converted by Butler.
Portumna were quick to reply and had a 63rd-minute penalty again from Lyons to go one point in front. He struck again in the 71st minute.
But high drama was to follow in the very dying stages of the encounter when the Sligo flanker Simon Coulter went over for a try in the left hand corner.
Butler converted.
