Crooked Throw was only just denied a big pot when runner-up to Incline at the Galway festival but Tralee's day four feature can provide some valuable compensation for Charlie Swan's horse this afternoon.
A total of eight line up for the Listed Ruby Stakes including the 102-rated Deauville Vision as well as the dark horse of the race, John Oxx's well-bred Sandtime, a nine-length maiden winner at Naas. She is the unknown factor against some proven tough handicappers but with conditions still testing, it could be that Crooked Throw's versatility in terms of going could prove crucial.
The veteran is certainly in form having only just failed to overhaul Incline in the Tote Galway Mile and the combination looks appealing.
Another combination, that of Eric McNamara and John Thomas McNamara, looks the one to follow in the final two events including the amateur riders maiden hurdle where Alabama Banjo should be hard to beat.
Certainly there should be nothing in here of the calibre of Bahrain Storm who beat the odds-on favourite at Limerick in March.
Dashing George should also be at home in the conditions for the handicap hurdle based on a nice run at Newbury last March.
Tonight's other fixture at Kilbeggan can prove profitable for the season's two leading National Hunt riders, Ruby Walsh and Davy Russell.
The latter can score on Galilean in the maiden hurdle and the course chase winner War Of The World in the handicap hurdle.
Walsh is on board Carraig Na Gcapall in the opener and significantly is also on board Irish Invader in the Beginners Chase.
Willie Mullins's horse has proved expensive to follow but not as much as Beautiful Vision who looks to set a beatable standard in this event.
n John Best's audacious attempt to land the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes with a two-year-old without even a win to his name paid off spectacularly as Kingsgate Native routed his elders at York yesterday.
