If Munster win the Heineken European Cup at Twickenham on Saturday week, it would set a historic precedent for Irish rugby, namely that the country would boast two European Cups at the same time. When Ulster won last year, Heineken were not the title sponsors and a new cup had to be commissioned.
Ulster duly received the trophy at Lansdowne Road. They were then given a replica to keep at Ravenhill. The newly commissioned cup is currently being held at the Allied Irish Bank Branch in Cardiff. Heineken returned as title sponsors this season and with them came the old trophy. So on Saturday week at Twickenham, Munster can claim the Heineken trophy by beating Northampton, which would allow Ireland to boast one European Cup in the North and one in the South.
