Today's final of the Leinster Senior Cup - sponsored by Conqueror - at Castle Avenue marks the first-ever appearance of CYM in the ultimate stage of the Cup campaign.
Opponents YMCA's last Conqueror Cup success was in 1994. In that final, played at Park Avenue, a late stand by Neil Bailey and Martin Ridgeway helped to stave off the challenge of Malahide in a gripping encounter.
CYM show two changes compared to the team which defeated Railway Union in the semi-final. Colm Morgan has recovered from a hand injury and returns at wicket-keeper instead of Kevin Kerrigan, who drops down to 12th man, while Conor Kelly, then on duty with the Ireland Under 17 side in Denmark, comes in for Michael Launders.
YMCA field the same team which defeated Pembroke by 123 runs in the semi-final two weeks ago. Stuart McCready's side scored 274 for 4 off their 60 overs that day, when Chris Cruikshank's unbeaten half-century and subsequent 5 for 38 earned him the man of the match award.
All told, this could be an intriguing final. Once again, Radio Near FM (101.6) will be covering the events live throughout the play, with Clontarf CC stalwart Fergus Carroll heading up the commentary team.
On Sunday at Sydney Parade another unusual final will be played as Malahide 3 and Portlaoise, neither of whom has ever won the competition, do battle for the Middle Cup.
The Leinster Senior 55 Overs League resumes tomorrow and Monday.
