World Cup Qualifying/Faroe Islands 0 Cyprus 3: Cyprus defeated the Faroe Islands 3-0 on an emotional night for the visitors who were playing for the first time since Sunday's air crash in Athens.
The European World Cup Group Four qualifier had no impact on the top of the group or the qualifying race, but will probably ensure that Cyprus finish above the Faroe Islands at the bottom of the standings.
A minute's silence preceded the kick-off and the players of both teams wore black armbands.
Nicos Nicolaou, the Cypriot skipper, missed the game as four of his relatives were among the victims and on the night Cyprus were not helped with the 44th minute dismissal of Eleftherios Elefteriou.
Coach Angelos Anastasiades was also ordered to watch the second half from the stands.
Michalis Constandinou opened the scoring after 38 minutes for the visitors with a long-range shot from outside the box and the same player made it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the 76th minute after Yiannakis Okkas was brought down by goalkeeper Jens Martin Knudsen.
The home side put the visitors under pressure for much of the match and went close when Jakupa Borg hit the post in the 57th minute.
Cyprus made it 3-0 late into stoppage time with Simos Krashias scoring.
Elsewhere, Russia remained third in the Group Three table after being held to a 1-1 draw away to Latvia. Captain Vitalijs Astafjevs opened the scoring for Latvia after six minutes before Andrei Arshavin equalised 18 minutes later.
The visitors were without six first-choice players through injury and suspension including striker Dmitry Sychev, playmaker Dmitry Loskov and skipper Alexei Smertin.
A well-taken double from midfielder Alexei Eremenko Jr and a strike by Paulus Roiha helped Finland to a 3-0 win over Macedonia in their World Cup Group One qualifier in Skopje.
Juventus striker Adrian Mutu scored twice for Romania as they beat Andorra 2-0 in the other Group One qualifier in Constanta, Romania. They join Holland on 16 points but remain in second spot on goals difference.
