Although Darren Clarke intends to get himself back in shape, don't expect any fitness craze to pull in, let alone hook, John Daly. "You won't catch me working out," he said on Wednesday, the same day he signed a new endorsement deal with SoBe Beverages, a US manufacturer of healthy sports drinks.
Daly's diet is famous: cheeseburgers, chocolate chip muffins and gallons of soft drinks, not to mention his alcohol addiction. However, it hasn't hurt his ability to send a golf ball further than anyone else - this year he once again leads the PGA Tour in driving distance with an average of 303.7 yards.
So what's the deal with SoBe drinks? "A lot of people drink healthy stuff because they think it will make them feel better, but the taste is not good," he says. "This is the first thing I ever tried that tasted any good and I think it's helping me."
Daly claims that he no longer suffers leg cramps on the golf course, and has already gone through five cases of the drink in three weeks. Still, it makes you wonder what he'd be capable of if he really took care of himself.
